Kendama Event Brings Anti-violence Message

In an effort to promote healthy relationships among youths, Bethel Chapel, Consortium for Health, Safety and Support, Domestic Violence Action Center, Made In Hope and other community partners will host a Jubilee Kendama Event/Sesh from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at August Ahrens Elementary School.

The diverse community partners aim to raise awareness about nonviolence and anti-bullying in a way that children can enjoy.

“There will be times where short messages and key phrases will be shared, and door prizes awarded to those who can answer (questions),” explained Alan

Bartolome, one of the organizers. “If we can teach kids early to treat others with respect and to live in harmony, they turn into adults who do the same.”

The jubilee also will offer a competition at various skill levels, along with prizes for the winners. In addition to all of this kendama fun, community groups will be on site with information relating to nonviolence.

Students who preregister via Facebook by today (May 28) will receive a free kendama. Registration fee is $5.

For more information, call 206-1398 or search for “Jubilee Kendama Contest” on Facebook.
