Kapolei’s Adult Speaker Series

Adults will not be left out of the state library system’s Summer Reading Program at Kapolei Library.

The branch, for example, offers “Literary Elements,” an adult summer reading speaker series, which will meet at 1 p.m. on four Saturdays starting June 7.

And, similar to the children’s program, all adult readers are invited to sign up, read a book and write a brief review each week to receive an incentive gift. There also will be weekly prize drawings.

The speaker series schedule is listed below and is open to everyone.

For more information, call adult services librarian Sheryl Lynch at 693-7050.

* June 7 – FILM. Chuck Boller, director emeritus of Hawaii International Film Festival, will discuss how a filmmaking team decides what book or story would make a good movie.

* June 14 – POETRY. The editor of Tinfish Press and an English professor at UH, Susan Schultz will discuss how to get the most out of reading poetry. Tinfish publishes experimental poetry.

* June 28 – ART. Justin Davies, outreach program manager for Honolulu Museum of Art School, discusses the elements to consider when looking at a work of art.

* July 12 – BOOKS. An expert on children’s books with a Master of Fine Arts degree, Nancy Thalia Reynolds will discuss why so many adults are attracted to young adult books.
