Sacred Hearts Academy showed its heart recently by making a huge gift to Aloha United Way.

The students worked during fall semester to earn money to help the AUW campaign, and they seemed to have the Midas Touch: The student council presented AUW officials with a check for $11,060 in early December, just in time for you-know-what.

Earlier, they had organized a fall bake sale, where tables groaned with the snacks and baked items from their families’ home kitchens, and hungry customers helped bring in a record-setting profit of more than $4,500 from the annual sale.

Students in grades 7-12 donated $3 each for Dress Down Day, buying the privilege of wearing casual attire instead of their uniforms. A similar theme earned charity dollars on Halloween with Costumers for a Cause. Lower school students ran a Coins for a Cause campaign, collecting spare change in classroom jars.
