City Council Lauds Mililani’s Madeira

Some of Oahu’s most dedicated high school students were honored in a June 5 ceremony at Honolulu Hale for their academic achievements and community service.

City Councilmen Ron Menor and Breene Harimoto presented honorary certificates to outstanding students from Campbell, Mililani and Waipahu high schools.

Megan Madeira represented Mililani High School as one of the honorees.

Madeira graduated summa cum laude and was one of 21 valedictorians from her school. She also is the 2013 recipient of Mililani High School’s Troteia Award – the school’s highest award, which is given to a graduating senior who excels academically and is committed to the school and community.

Madeira will attend American University in Washington, D.C., and plans to major in either international studies or political science.

“Academically, Megan was also tops among her peers,” said Menor, who represents District 9 (Mililani to Waikele) on the City Council. “Her teachers and peers describe her as a student who is committed to excellence, takes the initiative, is trustworthy and full of school pride.”

All three students represent the very best of their respective schools, he added.

“Their love for learning, positive outlook on life and willingness to help others will prepare all three of these outstanding students for a successful future. We wish them the very best in their scholastic and personal endeavors.”

The other honorees were Kathryn Kelly from James Campbell High School and Chris Negrillo from Waipahu High School.
