Ho‘ala Wins Award For Its Character-building Student Curriculum

Chalk up another award for Ho’ala School.

The Wahiawa private school recently was recognized again for its efforts to encourage ethical, social and academic growth through character education.

The Promising Practices Award is given annually by the Character Education Partnership to schools in the U.S., Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong and Mexico which exhibit new and effective ways to help students solve conflicts, decrease bullying and take action in their schools and communities.

“It’s an honor to be recognized nationally for a discipline system that has been proven to teach students to be responsible for and conscious of their own choices and behaviors,” said Ho’ala head of school Linda Perry.

“Our system is designed to raise awareness of how one’s actions affect self and others. At the foundation of this discipline system is a set of agreed-upon expectations, and students commit to living up to the agreements or adhering to the agreed-upon consequences.”
