Chic And Affordable Eyewear

By Karen Matsumoto
General Manager of Tokyo Optical Honolulu

“The perfect glasses for the perfect you” — that’s our motto at Tokyo Optical Honolulu, located in Shirokiya at Ala Moana Center.

Although it may sound cliche, we live by that motto, providing our customers with excellent, friendly service to help them find the perfect glasses that fit their face, suit their taste, work with their budget and complement their lifestyle.

People are surprised that we have such a huge selection of frames, ranging from budget styles to designer frames, such as Tiffany, Gucci, Chanel and Oakley. We also carry popular Japanese designer frames, including Hanae Mori, Yoshie Inaba, Hiroko Koshino and 999.9 (“Four Nines”).

Tokyo Optical Honolulu is the exclusive retailer of 999.9 frames from Japan. They are famous in Japan because of their amazing lightweight design, and also because many geinojin, or Japanese celebrities, wear them. We launched the brand last year and continue to bring in more of its designs for our customers. We also have really cute frames for kids from Lego, Roxy, Quiksilver and True

Religion, so Tokyo Optical has something for the whole ohana!

Please come and visit us at Shirokiya and check out our great specials. We accept most vision insurance, and offer specials for those without insurance or who want additional pairs of glasses. We also have a full-time independent optometrist, Dr. Paul Chin, in-house.

Our entire staff — including Masae Char, Kayla Kim and Carol Konno — are eagerly waiting to serve you! And we are thrilled to welcome Arlene Gonzalez to our team after 25 years at Sears Optical Ala Moana. Our staff speaks English, Japanese and Filipino.

Stop by Tokyo Optical for complimentary glasses cleaning and minor repairs — even if you didn’t buy your eyeglasses from us! It’s just part of our friendly service.

Tokyo Optical was founded in Japan in 1883 by Nariaki Shirayama. It is a fifth-generation family business originally built on selling reading glasses. The company has been in Hawaii since 1977.
