Guava Jam Softball Club played in the fast-pitch Championship Cup ASA Softball Tournament in Irvine, Calif., and came away with the division’s first-place trophy.

“They were so stoked,” said team parent Janelle Saneishi. “They won the 16U championship out of 50 teams (in pool play).”

Saneishi spoke to MidWeek‘s Central Oahu Islander shortly before the team moved on to Yorba Linda to compete in the Surf City Tournament

Summer Showcase July 11-13.

Head coach Jim Millwood and assistants Stan Cabanas and Jensen Kim lead the 12-member team, which is comprised of players from Mililani, Leilehua, Maryknoll and Kamehameha prep softball programs.

“I’m proud of the girls and the way they played throughout this tournament,” Millwood stated. “Their hard work and dedication helped them be the first Hawaii team to ever win this tournament.”
