Exploring Geology Of Kailua Land

It’s time to get down and dirty in Kailua (not literally), but those who sign up for the Kailua Ahupua’a Geology Tour Oct. 11 will learn a lot about the dirt, rocks and other geological formations around the community.

Sponsored by Ahahui Malama i ka Lokahi, Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club and AMERON, the tour will be led by Windward Community College’s Floyd McCoy from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Hikers will visit Pali Lookout, AMERON quarry and Na Pohaku of Hauwahine by Kawainui Marsh, exploring everything from the once-active volcanoes of the Ko’olaus to the dike formations near the quarry.

Hikers are advised to wear outdoor gear, sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes, as well as to bring a camera. Advanced registration is required, for a maximum of 30 people. Donations of $10 will be accepted.
