Creating Opportunities One Shirt At A Time

By Laura Smith
President/CEO Goodwill Industries of Hawaii

We want to thank you for helping us get to our goal of 100,000 boxes of donations in December. The generosity you have shown to Goodwill has helped many of your neighbors and friends find meaningful employment in Hawaii.

Do you remember when you got your first job? How did it make you feel?

Wasn’t it good to know that out of all the candidates who applied, you were the one chosen?

Remember that feeling.

That is the feeling you give someone when you donate your gently used clothing and household items to Goodwill Industries of Hawaii. Your “stuff” creates jobs.

Since 1959, Goodwill has helped people with employment barriers reach their full potential through our job-training and job-placement programs. In this past year alone, Goodwill served more than 12,500 individuals, and placed more than 1,700 people into meaningful jobs.

People like Quiana, a single mother of two sons, who was struggling to support her keiki after a family-run business closed. Having to move to public assistance was difficult. With the assistance of her Goodwill case worker, Quiana was able to overcome employment barriers, which led first to a volunteer opportunity, then to a part-time paid position, and finally full time in her dream job as a probation officer. She now is able to provide for herself and her sons without the help of public assistance.

Stories like Quiana’s would not be possible without your generous donations.

As you clean out your closet for the new year, give someone else in your community a fresh start and donate to Goodwill.

Revenue generated from the sale of your tax-deductible donations in our Goodwill stores stay in Hawaii and directly impact the lives of families in your community through our mission services programs.
