The national non-profit agency Ability House is partnering with Honolulu Habitat for Humanity to build accessible homes on Oahu, including one going up now on Waimanalo Hawaiian Homestead land. Celebrity volunteers, here to entertain at a gala benefit for the partnership in March, rolled up their sleeves and joined other volunteer builders at the Waimanalo site during that busy week. Among the willing hands at the “Celebrity Build” on Bell Street were award-winning TV actor Max Gail (Wojo on Barney Miller, etc.), actor and Paralympian John Siciliano, and “sit-down” comedian and scriptwriter Jeff Charlebois. This Waimanalo house for the Kamaiopili family will have a no-step entrance, accessible bathroom and wider hallways. To learn more about the project partnership and how to help, call 538-7575.
