Honolulu Habitat for Humanity is so proud of its homes in Waimanalo that it’s inviting the neighbors to walk by and take a look on June 10.

The official event is its “Building Communities Walk,” a one-mile stroll through the Hawaiian Homestead area starting at 8:30 a.m. at Waimanalo Beach Park. The seven Habitat homes are within three blocks of each other.

“You’d miss a lot if you run,” advised HHH executive director Anne Marie Beck. The group is also staging its third annual, 24-hour Build-a-thon that day, but it can only accommodate so many volunteers at the Bell Street building site. Thus, they added the walk for all others who are interested in the self-help home-building program.

“So far it’s been very well-received by our supporters,” Beck added."Our Habitat families will be standing outside their homes to greet the supporters and thank them as they walk by,” she said, noting that additional pledges are always welcome.

Fee for the walk is $20 per person or $40 per family by June 2; $25 on the morning of the event. Children under 12 are free. Registered walkers will receive a T-shirt. For more information, call 538-7373.
