Turkey Tickets Selling Fast For Thanksgiving

Hundreds of spaces in at least three imus are being gobbled up fast in Windward Oahu’s Thanksgiving kalua turkey tradition.

Castle and Kailua high schools and KEY Project in Kahaluu offer the service every year, along with canoe clubs and others. The special treat of having a succulent bird roasted in a fiery underground oven costs $15 for each well-wrapped, unstuffed offering, delivered to the site the day before the holiday.

Below are the fowl facts - and remember, space sells out quickly.


* KEY Project’s benefit Kalua Turkey Imu. Bring ticket stub along with completely thawed, unstuffed turkey (or other roast) wrapped in six layers of heavy foil. Do not use a pan. Drop off from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.Nov.25 at 47-200 Waihee Road. Pick up between 10 and 11 a.m. Thanksgiving Day. That’s when you bring the pan. Tickets are on sale at KEY’s office. Call 239-5777.

* Kailua High School’s Athletic Program: Make checks out to the school and mail early to 451 Ulumanu Drive, Kailua HI 96734. Include self-addressed, stamped envelope and phone number to receive confirmation ticket and number. There is a 25-pound limit per tray. Bring seasoned, well-wrapped food in aluminum tray between 3 and 4:30 p.m. Nov. 25; pick up between 8 and 9:30 a.m. Nov. 26. Call Todd Hendricks at 728-7389.


* Castle High School Future Farmers of America: Tickets are selling at the school office with instructions attached. Chicken and ham are OK,too, but they discourage pork. Drop off is 3 to 5 p.m. Nov. 25, pick up from 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 26. Call ag teacher Colby Kagawa at 233-5600, ext. 2200.
