A Kailua High School graduate has launched a Pet Power Club membership card that offers pet lovers discounts for stores and services, several of them in Windward Oahu.

“It’s like an Entertainment Book for pets,” explained Taryn Matsuda, who owns and runs Pet Power Hawaii, which promotes all-natural dog treats, cakes and parties. “It’s a great stocking stuffer. Everyone who has seen it definitely likes the concept.”

Among specific area venues covered by the membership card are Enchanted Lake Pet Center, Waimanalo Feed Supply, New Beginnings (Waimanalo), Doggie Paddles, Personalized Pet Care and Windward Walkies.

“Vendors can get new customers or repeat customers,” she said.“The economy is so bad, people would spend money if they know they can save money.”

The card costs $10 and is available at Enchanted Lake Pet Center, among others. Coupons are good through April 30, 2009. For more information, call 589-9971 or log onto http://www.petpowerclub.com.

Matsuda also hopes that nonprofits will use the card as a fundraiser by buying the cards at $5 up front, and selling them for $10. She plans to introduce the card again next year with more merchants.
