Through acupuncture services, nutrition advice, massage and more, the staff at the newly opened Iseri Wellness Center in Kaneohe hope to bond with the Windward community that surrounds them.

Toward that end, the center plans a “Windward for Wellness” block party at 4 p.m. Saturday at Back 2 Health Center, 45-696 Kamehameha Hwy., also the home of chiropractor Alex Conception. The event features sample consults, assessments, treatments, food, music, dancing and “people celebrating life.”

Founder Shereen Saiki, a licensed acupuncturist practicing traditional Chinese medicine, opened the wellness center in October with the goal of “having no barriers,“she said, and connecting with the community through educational opportunities, such as the block party.“What we envision is a lot of things where we simply bring people into the activities we’re already doing.

“I can see a lot of educational opportunities coming out of this group,” Saiki added of her staff, which includes licensed massage therapist Brian Tow, his wife and office manager Daniela, acupuncturist Fang Cai and nutritional therapist Edith Kazmierszak.

A graduate of the Institute of Clinical Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Honolulu, Saiki concentrates on techniques of physical therapy. At the Iseri center she and her staff offer herbal medicines, body work (including Swedish and cranial massages by Brian), lifestyle counseling and nutritional recommendations.

“Shereen, her whole thing is she’s really all about the Windward side and Kaneohe,” said Daniela Tow.“She wants to allow the people on the Windward side to get Chinese medicine without having to go into town.”

Though they are independent practitioners, Tow added, they work as a clinic.“It’s not just about renting a room. If they put the energy into the space, into each others’ clients, the customers would feel that, and they do. We all did it together.”

Since opening at Castle Professional Center, business has picked up. Iseri also boasts a few celebrity clients, including Playboy playmate and actress Audra Lynn and local artist Patrick Ching.

The center accepts clients by appointment only. For more information, call Saiki at 330-1630 or visit the center’s blog at http://windwardforwellness.blogsp ot.com.

Iseri’s website, http://www.iseriwellness.com, is currently under construction, but can be viewed.
