Del.icio.usChurch friends of Craig and Margaret Kamiko are planning a benefit garage sale and a patele stew lunch Saturday to send them on their way to Portland for heart transplant evaluation.
The sale runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Kahaluu Elementary School cafeteria, sponsored by Light of Promise Ministries with help from other area congregations.
“They are living paycheck to paycheck,“said friend Carol Lee Ramie, “and Kaiser (Permanente) has done everything possible for Craig already.
“The only hope is an evaluation and placement on a donor list for a heart transplant.”
The Kaneohe couple, who has grown children, is struggling with bills yet is considered above the state’s income criteria for help, Margaret told her church friends. A CDL-licensed truck driver, Craig hasn’t been able to work for three years because of complications from heart disease. His latest diagnosis is stage IV congestive heart failure. Margaret is employed at the Kaneohe Times Supermarket bakery.
Donations and monetary gifts (made out to Craig and Margaret Kamiko) are welcome. Household items and plants will be collected from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the cafeteria. For more information, call Ramie at 457-8857.
