Crowds will gather next week for the popular Kailua Christmas tree lighting, as they did (above) at the 2008 festivities. Trolleys also will take residents and visitors by the town’s other twinkling buildings during the evening. Photo from Helene Waihee.

Castle Medical Center hosts the annual Kailua Christmas tree lighting from 6:15 to 9 p.m. Dec. 2, kicking things off with a concert by the Marine Forces Pacific Band.

The program starts at 7 with the tree lighting and the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus. Honolulu Boy Choir will sing a few holiday songs as visitors enjoy kettle corn, gingerbread cookies from Agnes’ Portuguese Bake Shop and drinks from Starbucks.

Wellness on Wheels will offer keiki activities such as temporary holiday tattoos and light up necklaces, while they last. There also will be candy canes for children.

A free trolley will shuttle passengers from 5 to 9 p.m. between the hospital and the Kailua Town Center parking garage next to Macy’s. The ride goes through Kailua to take in the town’s holiday lights.

Sponsors are Kaneohe Ranch, Harold K. Castle Foundation, Ameron Hawaii, First Hawaiian Bank and Starbucks.
