Now through May 31, residents can help the Hawaii Bankers Association fight hunger by bringing canned foods or monetary donations to your local bank.

Approximately 285 bank branches are participating in this annual effort, including members of the Hawaii Bankers Association coalition: American Savings Bank, Bank of Hawaii, Bank of the Orient, Central Pacific Bank, Finance Factors, First Hawaiian Bank, Hawaii National Bank, HomeStreet Bank, Pacific Rim Bank and Territorial Savings Bank.

Last year, HBA member banks collected a total of 33,000 pounds of food and $35,500 in support of Hawaii Foodbank.

“We appreciate the member banks making their branches available to serve as collection points for canned food and monetary donations,” stated Richard Grimm, president of the food bank.“It’s sadbuttrue that even though we just completed a very successful food bank drive, the shelves in our warehouse will be bare within a matter of weeks.”

Most needed are monetary contributions (a $10 donation provides 25 meals for hungry residents) and canned meats, fish, meals, soups and vegetables.
