Kapolei Property Development recently announced the 2008 recipients of the prestigious Kapolei Outstanding Achievement (KOA) Awards during a ceremony held May 21 at the Ihilani.
First established in 1990 - the year the City of Kapolei broke ground, the KOA Awards recognizes individuals, companies and organizations whose accomplishments in the areas of community service, education, environment and leadership have helped define Kapolei.
The well-deserving bunch this year includes Rich Griffin, landscape coordinator for of Island Pacific Academy; Michael Leskovec, a Makakilo resident who has contributed 30-plus years of community service to the Kapolei community; the 2007 Kapolei Sunset Festival Committee, a hard-working group of volunteers from various area organizations that successfully organized the two-day Kapolei Summer Sunset Festival last year; Margarette Pang, founder and executive director of Dyslexia Tutoring Center of Hawaii; James Matthew Stamm, president and CEO of North Star Scientific Corp.; and Mike Rennebu, the youth development director of the Hale Pono Boys & Girls Clubhouse in Ewa Beach and the program director for the Clubhouse’s MethSMART after-school program.
“We truly believe that buildings alone do not make a city,” said David Rae, senior vice president of development for Kapolei Property Development. “A city needs the contributions of many people to bring it to life and nurture its growth. The annual KOA Awards are an opportunity to acknowledge these contributions.”
