Aiea’s Dang Holds A Bridal Gown Sale

Aiea resident Tanna Dang,owner of The Wedding Cafe, found herself in the midst of more than 400 brides-to-be who were fighting for a wedding dress last month.
They ventured into the store for Dang’s “crazy gown sale” that was inspired by a scene from the TV show Friends.
“I was watching a rerun of Friends,when my fave episode came on,"she explained via email to her mass list of brides."You know, the one where Monica, Rachel and Phoebe go to that crazy gown sale to look for Monica’s perfect wedding dress - the sale with hundreds of wedding gowns lining the walls at totally discounted prices? Remember the adrenaline of those New York brides hunting for their wedding dresses in a wedding dress fury? And Rachel blowing the whistle after getting lost in the frenzy? I don’t know about you, but I was cracking up. Then I thought, hey, why can’t we bring that to Hawaii? And then I thought again, why can’t I bring a crazy gown sale to The Wedding Cafe?”
Dang’s April sale had gowns priced in the $99-$399 range.
“Some brides came down just to be in the frenzy even though they already had their own dress,” added Dang."They just wanted to see what the prices were like. We hope to do it again next year.”
Dang’s shop, located in Manoa Marketplace,offers a library of magazines for brides, in addition to suggestions on services to use for that special day. It also serves lunch.
