Del.icio.usWa’ahila Ridge State Recreation Area soon will see significant upgrades to its access road, thanks to a large stipend released by the governor in April for improvements to recreation areas and boat harbors on the Big Island and Oahu managed by the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.
Of the $1,275,000 released, Wa’ahila Ridge is to receive $125,000 to repair the entry access road from Ruth Place to the parking area. The East Oahu park’s road has not been repaved or repaired for more than 25 years.
“Currently we’re working to complete contract execution in late November or early December,” said DLNR public information officer Deborah Ward.“Construction work is still expected to start some time in December.” It should be completed by July 2010.
“We expect to meet the stated time frames barring unforeseen project delays due to inclement weather, unexpected delay in shipment or delivery of pre-ordered materials or paving,” Ward added.
“As the project start date nears, we also will inform the (Diamond Head-Kapahulu-St. Louis Heights) neighborhood board about the schedule and possible temporary traffic impacts, especially to residents on Ruth Place, as construction machinery and paving equipment moves through the neighborhood to the park.”
For more information, call Ward at 587-0320.
