Dennis Kohagura’s ‘68 Chevy Camaro
Since his days at Kalani High School, Dennis Kohagura has been the quintessential hot rodder. He’s owned and sold two ‘56 Chevys and a 1970 Barracuda. Three years ago he bought this RS Camaro as a retirement gift to himself.
“I’ve wanted a Camaro for a long time before I retired, but I had a house to pay for and kids to send to school, so my wife said to wait until I retire,” says Kohagura. “I looked at half a dozen cars before Mel Sakaba told me about this car that Dwight Min built and was selling.”
Today Kohagura enjoys driving his two grandsons to and from school and other activities in the first-generation muscle. And since making some changes to the carb, ignition and shocks, Kohagura has become a regular at cruise nights.
“There have been complete strangers who have come up to my house and ask if the car is for sale,” says Kohagura. “I tell them no, and I wouldn’t sell this car unless there was another Camaro ready for me to buy. Plus, I plan on changing the engine and doing some other things to it.”
The next independent cruise night is at Kapolei Home Depot Saturday, July 26, from 5 to 10 p.m.
