The awards banquet is Saturday, March 27, at the Sheraton Waikiki. Besides the change in venue, this year’s banquet will have a program change. The reception with cocktails begins at 4 p.m., the awards presentation is at 5 p.m. and concludes with dinner, music and dancing from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
“We will be presenting all the awards at the beginning and holding off on the entertainment until after all the awards are given out, so the show moves faster,” says Johnny Kai, executive director of Hawaii Music Awards.
“We can then focus on the awards, as the entertainment and musicians will have more time to talk about their awards. And dinner will be served after the awards, so everyone can be relaxed and enjoy the moment.”
Tickets for this year’s awards show are now on sale. Cost is $70 per person.

Ricky Hana and Alan Satchwell couldn’t be more excited about their win in the Pop category for their recently released (December 2009) album Love of the Islands.
Their aloha of Hawaii and musical paths crossed this last September, and in two short months they had a finished record, available on iTunes and CD Baby.
“Our music is Cali-Hawaii pop rock with island ingredients, but we also have our own musical creativity,” says Hana, who lived on Maui and Oahu for close to 30 years.
The album features eight original songs: One Day At A Time, Maui Sunset, Another Day In Paradise, Sunrise Haleakala, Love Of The Islands, Healing Isle, Floating Lanterns and Fragile Kauai.
The duo currently resides in Santa Barbara, Calif., but both express deep connections to Hawaii, which include experiences during their time here.
“My relationship with the Islands is like a lot of Mainlanders’ wonderful vacations, which is chronicled in Healing Isle and Fragile Kauai,” says Satchwell. “My wife and I being on Kauai in 2006 was a deeply spiritual renewal of our marriage. That’s just one of the trips I’ve had over the years.”

Maui’s The Throwdowns are going national!
As of last month, the full-scale release of their debut album Don’t Slow Down is available at all Borders, Target, Best Buy, Walmart, Costco, Barnes & Noble and Hot Topic locations nationally.
Remastered by the band’s in-house producer/guitarist, Ola Shaw, with an extra track added, this release is the response to a growing fan base in their home state, the Mainland states and Canada.
To celebrate, band members Kimo Clark (bass), Erin Smith (vocals), Ola Shaw (guitar) and Ian Hollingsworth (drums) are having a CD/video release party April 30 at Pipeline Cafe.
But if you can’t wait ‘til April, The Throwdowns will warm up the stage for Brooklyn-based reggae/hiphop artist Matisyahu next week Thursday (Feb. 25) at Pipeline Cafe ...
