How long have you been at The Queen’s Medical Center?Since 1994.
What does a radiation oncologist do?
There are various areas of oncology specialties: There’s pediatric, surgical, radiation and medical. Radiation therapy is the use of X-rays and other forms of ionizing radiation to treat patients. Most of our patients are cancer patients, but we have a few who are not.

How long have you been practicing?
I’ve been practicing for 22 years. I moved back to Hawaii in 1997 and was doing the same thing in Denver prior to that time.
What is occupational medicine?
Occupational medicine includes the medical services provided to the working population in the industrial setting.

What’s your background and where did you receive your training?
I am from Pearl City and graduated from Iolani School in 1981. My medical school training was here at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, after which I did an internship year in obstetrics at Kapiolani Hospital.

What is in vitro fertilization (IVF)?
In vitro fertilization is a process by which we help a couple who is unable to build a family. It can either be a male factor or female factor. In either case, we are able to stimulate the female’s ovaries to make eggs.

Where did you receive your schooling?
I was born and raised in Hawaii and graduated from Kalani High School. I was away from Hawaii for 12 years because there’s no dermatology training locally. I went to the University of Colorado at Boulder for my undergraduate and then University of Chicago for medical school.

What’s your area of specialty?
My area of specialty is called maternal-fetal medicine, also known as perinatology. Because there was confusion between perinatology and neonatology, the name of the specialty was changed a few years ago to maternal-fetal medicine.

Do you have an area of specialty?
Arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery, and sports medicine.
Where did you go to school and receive your training?
Everyone always wants to know where you went to high school here in Hawaii - I went to Iolani. Georgetown University was where I did my undergrad and majored in biology. Then I went on to med school at Georgetown, and I did my residency there as well in orthopedic surgery.
