Chaminade To Play UH At Kauai High

As in past years, the Chaminade men’s basketball team will play arguably the toughest schedule in the nation among Division II Schools.

That was the consensus even before University of Hawaii was added to the “Swords” 2013-14 slate – which already listed their usual Division I opponents (as part of hosting the EA Sports Maui Invitational).

The Silverswords and Rainbow Warriors will play Dec. 14 at Kauai High School in Lihue, marking the second straight season the two teams will meet on a neighbor island. Last year, they played on Molokai with a UH win of 104-93.

“We are ecstatic to keep this ongoing game,” head coach Eric Bovaird said. “Last year was a great experience for all playing on Molokai, and this year should be much of the same on Kauai. A game versus UH can only make us a better team, and we look forward to playing high quality teams like them.”

Chaminade’s output of 93 points last year was tied for the highest point total surrendered by UH last season.

“We’re looking forward to playing the UH men’s basketball team in front of the fans on the beautiful island of Kauai,” added Chaminade athletics director Bill Villa. “The people of Kauai love basketball, and I think they will enjoy watching the young men of both teams display their tremendous talent and skill.

I am appreciative of the collaborative efforts of UH and Chaminade in bringing college basketball to the Neighbor Islands. This will be a great experience for the fans, coaches and players alike. We can’t wait.”

Hawaii will be the fourth NCAA Division I foe this season for CUH, which opens the 30th annual EA Sports Maui Invitational against Baylor Nov. 25, and will face either Gonzaga or Dayton Nov. 26. Possible Nov. 27 opponents include Syracuse, Minnesota, California or Arkansas. Chaminade’s first-round game with Baylor Nov. 25 will tip off at 4:30 p.m. and be televised nationally on ESPNU. Chaminade’s Nov. 26 and 27 games will be shown on either ESPN or ESPN 2.

The ‘Swords will play 14 home dates at McCabe Gym beginning with their opener Nov. 8 against Division II power Western Oregon University.

Chaminade went 19-11 last season overall en route to earning a bid to the NCAA Division II tournament. It finished 14-4 in the PacWest, tied for second and were 8-4 in home games at McCabe.
