On this special day, families will fly koinobori or carp-shaped streamers outside their homes (with the number of carps representing the number of boys in the household), and buy gifts for their children, such as intricate samurai dolls (representing strength and bravery) inside a glass case displayed in the house.

Featured here are some fun Boy’s Day fashions and gift items available at Shirokiya through May 5, or while supplies last. Also, stop by Shirokiya’s Ohana Sunday event May 4 from 1 to 4 p.m., celebrating both Boy’s Day and Mother’s Day. There will be a Mother’s Day fashion show, craft projects for kids, temporary tattoos and a photo station.
