Bottling Up Beverage Market

By Bernie Coleman President of Pacific Allied Products

Recently, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) proposed strict regulations to prevent the contamination of produce and processed foods. The new industry standards will have a large impact on manufacturing operations, and at Pacific Allied Products, we’re more than ready.

We began manufacturing polyethylene terephthalate (PET) products for the local bottling industry in 1992. After installing a complete bottling line in 2010, we became 100 percent vertically integrated in PET processing – a first in Hawaii and the country. As a result, we have the capability to manufacture plastic preforms for soda, juice, milk and water bottles; mold the pre-forms into containers of various shapes and sizes; rinse, fill and cap the bottles; and then label, shrink wrap and palletize the final product – all under one roof.

Quality standards and consumer safety are chief among our guiding principles. As such, and in the face of the FDA’s new regulations, we took a proactive approach and last year earned our Food Safety Systems Certification (FSSC) 22000 and our International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 22000 certification, which specify requirements for a food-safety management system to ensure products are safe at the time of consumer consumption.

Today, our manufacturing center has the ability to produce 200 million bottles each year. Our state-of-theart equipment and testing laboratory with experienced, trained and degreed personnel ensure that our practices exceed state and federal safety regulations.

Among our private label customers are Ito-En USA, Aloha Wai water; 7- Eleven’s Island Pure water; University of Hawaii-West Oahu Best of the West water; Hawaii Deep Blue, deep-sea water product for Halekulani hotel; Hilo Hattie and more. Pacific Allied Products also bottles and packages Dasani water for our largest Mainland customer, Coca-Cola Refreshments, for all of the Hawaiian Islands.

We look forward in 2013 to serving as a role model and industry leader when it comes to food safety.
