Area Teachers Awarded Grants

A little bit of help goes a long way. This is why Hawaii State Federal Credit Union donated $19,948.28 to 45 public school teachers in 2014 — including 10 in Central Oahu.

The Investing in Education grants address the individual requests of teachers, who submit essays explaining how the money will be used in their classrooms.

Keith Merriam of Hale Kula Elementary School requested funds for a portable stage that his students could use to improve public speaking.

The other Central Oahu recipients were Eric Baba of Wahiawa Middle School, Cara Dote of Solomon Elementary, Lori Eto of Mililani Mauka Elementary, Raejean Gamiao of Mililani Uka Elementary, Lisa Lariscy of Waialua Elementary, Neal Manutai of Kahuku High & Intermediate, Kris Shimizu and Kelli Uyeda of Helemano Elementary, and Marcie Waki of Mililani High School.
