On a recent Friday, Alan Hackbarth stopped in Foodland at Windward City Shopping Center for breakfast. As he made his purchase at 8:45 a.m., MidWeek‘s representative approached Alan with a simple question. He answered correctly and instantly won a $150 Foodland shopping spree.

“I like shopping at Foodland because I like the Maikai card and I usually go to their deli,” said this week’s Mystery Shopper, a firefighter. “Also, it’s convenient. It’s all over the place.”

Born and raised in Kailua, Alan graduated from Kamehameha Schools in 1994 and played football for University of Hawaii. Many might also recognize him as “The Rubberband Man” from UH volleyball games. These days, his hobbies include basketball and working on his house. He also likes to read MidWeek.

“I like to read the cover stories,” he said. “And the poll question and answers.”
