Affordable Dental Plans

By Puanani Crabbe
Ho‘ala Dental Program Manager

There is a large population of Hawaii residents who do not have dental insurance or dental benefits to assist them with the high cost of dental care.

This is an ongoing problem for individuals, elderly, college students and the countless number of small businesses struggling to make ends meet and keep their employees working.

The Ho’ala Dental Program was established in 2000 to provide for those who do not have dental insurance or a means for patients to have all of their dental services provided for a reasonable cost. Ho’ala provides discount dental membership plans that work just like national warehouse discount clubs. In exchange for an annual membership fee, Ho’ala members are able to receive dental services at a substantial discount.

The beauty of our membership plan is its simplicity. Individuals enroll in the Ho’ala membership and are provided a guaranteed discount fee schedule for preventative, restorative and cosmetic services, along with specialty services for oral surgery (extractions), periodontics (gum disease), prosthodontics (crowns, bridges and dentures) and endodontics (root canals).

Unlike dental insurance, there are no costly insurance claims to process, no waiting periods, no deductibles or annual maximums, so patients are able to get their dental work done when they need it, not when their insurance company decides it will provide coverage for it.

Members of Ho’ala receive a co-payment discount fee schedule for all dental procedures upon enrollment, and know in advance what their outof-pocket cost will be.

The Ho’ala Dental Program is pleased to offer the Hawaii Family Dental Centers network for all dental services. It has 10 convenient offices on Oahu, Maui, the Big Island and Kauai, and serve tens of thousands of islanders annually.

Hawaii Family Dental Centers is Hawaii’s premier dental group, which offers the full range of specialty services from general dentistry to oral surgery and orthodontics, and was established in 1986 to serve Hawaii’s families. Ho’ala offers options for college students, individuals and group plans for small businesses.
