Designer Lauren Hayashibara (pictured at left) introduces her new 19th & Whimsy holiday 2013 collection featuring a great assortment of contemporary tops and dresses in festive colors that can effortlessly go from day to night.
“I wanted to describe a place: 19th & Whimsy is the intersection where contemporary fashion meets an element of whimsy,” explains Hayashibara on the name of her line. “The brand is all about incorporating a whimsical element (whether it’s a print, embellishment or simply a little bit of sparkle in the fabrication) into fun and modern styles. I design and sew all styles, as well as design all printed fabric and screen prints.”
Hayashibara, who was born and raised in Los Angeles, earned a bachelor’s degree in apparel product design & merchandising from the University of Hawaii. She previously worked as an intern at St. John Knits in Irvine, Calif., and as an assistant designer and assistant merchandiser for a lingerie and sleepwear company in L.A.
In 2011, she moved back to Hawaii and decided to create her own brand specializing in casual, chic styles of clothing, including tees, tanks, tops, dresses, shorts and skirts that are great everyday go-to pieces.
On Oahu, 19th & Whimsy is available at Basique Threads in Ward Warehouse, LMS Boutique in Manoa, Ronel Boutique in the Hilton Hawaiian Village, Exclusive Hawaii in Aiea (beginning Nov. 1), and online at etsy.com/shop/19thandWhimsy.
